about the domain name

A fili was a poet of the early Irish and Scottish traditions. Their purpose was to compose, recite, and mentally retain poetry that praised the honorable and satirized the disreputable, depending on what inspired them at the moment.

A harper plays a harp. That part is pretty self-explanatory. :) Some say a person who plays a large classical harp is a harpist, while a someone who plays lever or folk-style harp is a harper.

personal information

My family moved from East Texas to Arizona in 1986 for economy and climate. I currently live in Tempe, Arizona, just a few miles from Arizona State University.

harp and celtic music

I provide therapeutic harp to hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare venues. I play Gaelic and Traditional Irish music on the harp and teach it on occasion to interested students.

I am a supporting member of Four Peaks Irish Arts of Phoenix, Arizona. They are a chapter of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann organization devoted to Traditional Irish music, dance, language, and culture.

spirituality

I am a Celtic Reconstructionist (Págánacht/Pàganachd) which is part of a network of environmentally and culturally conscious spiritual practices. Paganacht and Pàganachd are associated with the early Irish and Scottish traditions. I am also beginning studies in Filidecht, the craft of the poet-seer with the help of Erynn Rowan Laurie and other members of the CR community. I formed a local, informal study group called Coiri Trei for studies in Filidecht and Druidism.

In 2003, I became an initiated priest of the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids and currently carry the title of reverend in my community.

Please note that I provide ritual harp for spiritually oriented ceremonies.
